Jambo! Safari Headed for Wii and DS

After teasing an announcement on Twitter this morning, Sega made a post on their official European blog revealing the first ever screens and details on their upcoming console and handheld adaptations of Jambo! Safari. Coming to the Wii and DS later this year, this revived arcade classic will transport players back to the plains of Africa, where they'll search for (and lasso) distressed and injured wildlife from the comfort of their customized Land Rover Defender.
The DS version -- called Jambo! Safari Animal Rescue -- is said to take advantage of the handheld's multiple screens for interacting with and providing medical assistance for captured animals. Jambo! Safari Ranger Adventure for the Wii, on the other hand, will offer motion-controlled lassoing and a two-player co-op mode, as well as several four-player party modes like Ostrich Racing and something called Meerkat Madness.
How well will the arcade original's controls translate to the DS and Wii? We'll have to wait and see on that one. At the very least, it should make for a goofy alternative to Afrika on PlayStation 3.
